Celebrating the Free Spirit of India

True freedom and Independence can only exist in doing what’s right…

The week long celebrations of India’s 71st Independence day at St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh culminated this 15th August, 2017 with a blend of the most exquisite acts put together for this auspicious occasion by the Josephian Family. The function commenced with the time honoured, traditional Hoisting of the National Flag by Principal Ms. Monica Chawla as well as Ms. Lily Sebastian, as everyone present paid their tribute to the Nation by singing the National Anthem.

Songs like the ‘Sub Se Unche Vijay Pataka’ and the Punjabi folk song touched the heart as did the soul stirring Vande Mataram, sung by the school choir. A Hindi Play ‘Naya Bharat’ had everyone mesmerized as the students of Primary 2 brought our nationalistic feelings to the fore. Amisha of the Sr. Sec. Block added a spark to the Programme with his/ her fiery and passionate Speech. Garima of Secondary Block and Harmanjot of class IX were applauded for the recital of their self-composed poetry. Budding Casio Player Sushant Sharma of class III won everyone’s heart with his soulful rendition of the Vande Mataram.

The two dance performances, one a contemporary concept and the other the ever vibrant Bhangra received an overwhelming response from the audience –  depicting a glimpse of the ‘real’ India which is after all a unique blend of the conventional with the new-fangled. The little winners who bagged the top three positions of the Fancy Dress Competition entertained everybody as they represented the National Flag, Mother India, Bhagat Singh, the Indian States etc.

But probably what excited the students the most was the Prize Distribution Ceremony that was held to felicitate all the winners of the various Competitions that took place throughout the week. The Awards, Certificates and Medals were conferred by the Principal upon the well deserving Josephians who had participated wholeheartedly and enthusiastically.

Principal Ms. Chawla addressed the staff and students, thanking everyone who had gathered there in an attempt to show solidarity towards the Nation. Taking inspiration from our Honourable Prime Minister Narender Modi’s various policies, she went on to motivate the students to be ardent contributors towards spreading goodwill in society which is the need of the hour, seeing the times of strife nowdays. She reminded the Josephians to remain steadfast in their duty towards their Nation by being good citizens. She also highlighted the contribution of every member of the Josephian family towards the ‘Rally for Rivers’ – a new programme adopted by the school.

A special screening of the movie, ‘AIRLIFT’ was held for teachers, which added to the fervour and sprit of the occasion.

The ceremony was bought to a conclusion with the rendition of the School Song.

Hindi Recitation Competition

Today the students of Class II had Hindi Recitation Competition of Primary- 1 block of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Chandigarh. This competition was organized to uplift the Hindi language and have awareness and promote our National Language “HINDI”.
As it is said Hindi is the mother of all languages and learning about it is the key to learn and understand languages in our lives. The students were encouraged by the teachers to take part and the gain was of others to enjoy beautiful Poems on Pollution, Mother , Hard work never goes waste, Environment and many amazing Poems were recited by the students. Each Poem had an important message which helped the audience to learn about the topics depicted. The Judges, Ms. Lily Sebastian and Ms. Shelza Arora  gave away the Certificates to the best ones and our Principal Ma’am Monica Chawla appreciated the students on their accomplishments and the love and interest shown towards the language Hindi .

World Ozone Day

The students of Class I & II of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Chandigarh celebrated “World Ozone Day”. Numerous activities and programs were held in order to spread awareness among them as to how important is the Ozone layer for the environment and also the depletion of Ozone layer.

The slogan writing activity was organized for the students with the theme “Ozone layer”. The students came up with amazing lines which gave the students the way out to protect the environment by doing things as say NO to plastic, use less vehicles, Go Green etc. The Judges had a lot of appreciation for the “Slogans written” by the students. The best ones were chosen and certificates were given away by the Principal Ms. Monica Chawla.

TALENT HUNT COMPETITION

“ Your Talent Makes You Who You Are. You Should Be Proud Of It.”

In a bid to give wings to children to pursue their dreams and bring out their hidden talents, St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector-44D, Chandigarh organized a Talent Hunt Competition for the students of Class IV of Primary II Block.    An overwhelming response was encouraging, as students came forward to display their immense talents in various artistic fields – Singing, Dancing, Acting, Mimicry, Mono acting,  Playing Casio, Poetry Recitation, Painting and lot more.     The brimming Josephites showed extraordinary ardor and enthralled the audience with exemplary performances. Theevent helped the children to develop higher level of creativity, self expression and indomitable spirit to carve a niche for themselves.The participants gave a tough time to the judges to decide upon the winners.

The winners were congratulated by the principal, Ms.Monica Chawla. Speaking on the occasion, she said that St. Joseph’s believes in the potential of each child and organizing such competitions helps to nurture the intrinsic qualities of students and remove the fear of stage among them.These participants were declared winners in various categories:-Ambreen(IV A), Niharika(IV B), Sushant(IV A), Devansh(IV B), Mimansa(IV A), Savroop(IV E), Kushman(IV A), Tisha(IV D), Ananya(IV B), Keerat(IV C), Avleen(IV C), Kamya(IV E), kanishka(IV E), Sukhman(IV C)

VANMAHOTSAV Celebration

St Joseph’s Sr. Sec School, Sector 44 D, Chandigarh celebrated Vanmohatsav – the festival of trees within the school premises. This yearly tree planting development in India started in India in 1950 and has been followed religiously ever since. The Green Saviours – members of the Eco – Club in collaboration with the youth innovative Society organized the event. The celebrations commenced with a welcome song prepared by the school choir for the Chief Guest, Mr. Gurmanpreet Singh, Divisional Forest Officer, SAS Nagar. Then it was time for the plantation of saplings by the Chief Guest and the members of the school management –Mr. Rupinder Grewal (Director) Ms. Harjinder Kaur, Ms. Lily Sebastian, Mr. Sachin head of YIS and Principal Ms. Monica Chawla.

The skit prepared by the Nukkad Natak team of the school won a generous applause from everyone gathered there. The Josephians went on to express all the steps that have already been taken to bring about a positive change in the environment. They highlighted the banning of polythene bags and foil in school while encouraging every Josephian to adopt the practice of using jute and cloth bags especially ‘Veggie or Mandi’ bags. In fact, preparation of bags using old cloth bags was part of the Holiday Homework for them. Apart from that, School also boasts of a kitchen garden, a green house, vermicomposting, rainwater harvesting, segregation of waste and other such ecofriendly projects. The chief guest, Mr. Gurmanpreet Singh appreciated the efforts of the school towards clean and green society and the zeal and enthusiasm of the students in spreading the message to all around us.

Principal Ms. Monica Chawla appreciated the efforts put in by the Green Saviours. She has been the backbone of most of the above mentioned activities and is constantly on the lookout for innovative and exciting new trends to take St. Josephs to the top. The main purpose of celebrations like Van Mahotasav remind us of the fineness and superiority of trees while making the implications of our inherited assets and that without us trees cannot adjust or survive.

Josephians Mark Vanmahotsava-2018

Each year various events celebrate and rejoice the importance of all types of forests and trees outside forests for the benefit of current and future generations.The occasion of the Festival of Trees-Vanmahotsava has become an integral part of the lives of every student at St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh. Though it was summer vacation going on, as part of the celebrations, a group of Josephians were there to witness the Launching of the Plantation Drive and the inauguration of the Paudh Mela on 2nd July, 2018 by Smt. Kirron Kher- Hon’ble Minister of Parliament, UT, Chandigarh. This event was organized by the Department of Forest and Wildlife, Chandigarh. Students got to see the varied species of Herbal and Medicinal plants displayed in the stalls put up all around.

Ms. Kirron Kher distributed free saplings to all the students and other visitors present. The Josephians were accompanied by their teachers, Ms. Nithya and Ms. Anita Rana  who were there to guide them and explain the uses of the various plants. The students particularly enjoyed being part of the Plantation Drive by the Chief Guest, on Kambwala Road, Chandigarh. They came back refreshed and rejuvenated, realizing the essence of the thought- ‘Save the Trees, Save the Earth- Everything we do affects the Earth.

Swachh Bharat Art Excellence Award Winners

The Special assembly conducted at St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School today, reverberated when the prizes for exhibiting talent in a Colouring Competition organized by the National Education and Human Resource Development Organisation were conferred on the winners, amidst a loud roar of applaud during the prize distribution ceremony.

The day became even more colourful for the winners and the school when the winners were adorned with Gold Madals in the Swachh Bharat Art excellence Category. The proud winners were Jasmine Saini of Class III, Anshi Arora (IX), Harsharan Singh (III), Tarun Pal (X), Mannat (VI), Harsharan Kaur (VIII), Tanishka (IX), Kunwar Irshdeep singh (X), Aakriti (IX) and Himanya (I) respectively.

The Assembly showcased the efforts of the school which keeps motivating the students to participate in all the events and translate their dreams into reality.

Principal of the school Ms. Monica Chawla applauded the efforts of the winners and motivated then to keep walking tirelessly on the path of success.

Lohri Celebration

Lohri- the festival which offers a panorama of our culture was celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm in St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School Sector 44, Chandigarh. The feeling of trance was bought by melodious vocals “Sunder Munderiye” and vivacious “Folk Dance” by the students.

Apart from the pomp and show the students, facilitators and management pledged to leave no stone unturned in glorifying the girl child and also emphasized on educating them. The girl child is the most crucial and reverend entity and an educated girl can shoulder any responsibility. In order to accelerate the development, the girls should be given right education in right direction. The hallmark of the festival, lighting of the Bon-fire did not only absorb and assimilate the feelings but also proved to be reconciliation that submerged into all present there. Peanuts, Rewari, Popcorns etc. were distributed among the students.

Director Sir, Mr. Rupinder Singh and Founder Lady, Madam Harjinder Kaur were very happy witnessing the spurring moments. They advised the students to stay away from the evils which perpetuate obstacles in their holistic growth. Principal Mrs. Monica Chawla advised the students to live a life of truth and virtue as it would prove to be an upper hand in enduring a respectable life ahead. Many fun and frolic moments were cherished by all present there.

Josephians Spreading Smiles

Little Josephians ushered in the new year with a noble deed by spreading their hands to the underprivileged children. An initiative of ‘Spreading Smiles’ was taken by Kindergarten students of St. Joseph’s wherein they visited a slum area along with their teachers and donated eatables and clothes to them. This was an initiative to teach our children to help the needy & poor and bring a smile on their face. They also learnt the value of food and were motivated not to waste food because it’s one of the most precious things bestowed upon us by the God.
 So the children pledged not to waste food and learn to donate generously. They enjoyed bringing smiles on the faces of the children who are also just like them but not as lucky as them.

Bollywood Bonanza

St. Joseph’s School, Nayagon celebrated its 4th Annual Function “Bollywood Bonanza” at St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh on 20.12.2017.

The programme commenced with the lightening of the ceremonial lamp by the honourable Founder lady Mrs. Harjinder Kaur Grewal, Director Mr. Rupinder Singh, worthy members of the Management Mr. Sukhdeep Singh and Ms. Lily Sebastian. The program started with “Saraswati Vandana” that implied spreading of the wealth, knowledge & wisdom. Little Josephians paid tribute to our courageous & brave heros through their dance on “Brave soldiers.”“Dancing Souls” & Rocking bachhe” in their eye catching costumes enthralled the audience with their twists & twirls.
