Celebrating Well-Being and Happiness through Yoga

Yoga is the dance of every cell with the music of every breath that creates inner serenity and harmony.

-Debasish Mridha

A few of the staff members, students and parents of St. Joseph Sr. Secondary School gathered at the school premises today to mark the International Yoga Day. Practicing Yoga has been an integral part of the curriculum at St. Joseph. The students have been practicing various yoga asanas every morning for the past one month through the virtual platform and are well versed with the techniques, benefits associated with it. The activity conducted at the school today was the celebration of the success of this wonderful routine specially designed for helping students cope with the stress associated with the fast pace of life.

Yoga Day is celebrated every year on 21st June to highlight the pivotal role it plays in rejuvenating our mind, body and soul. Yoga helps us to celebrate our very being, the creation of God that is so unique and magnificent. It helps us to build strength, resilience and transform into a person who is in complete harmony with himself and the environment.

The day at St. Joseph began with the enthusiastic participants laying down their mats in the open grounds and practicing ‘Pranayama’- inhaling and exhaling fresh air. Prana means “life force’ or ‘breath’ and ayama means’ control’ or ‘restraint’. Practicing Pranayama helps cleanse the mind and body, eliminating toxins.

Thereafter the partakers performed the Surya Namaskar- Connoting Obeisance to the Sun. Surya Namaskar is a complete body workout comprising of 12 intensive Yoga asanas and has multifold benefits for the body and the soul. Various other asanas and stretching exercises also formed a part of the routine which was formed under the supervision of expert physical trainers.

The joyous, relaxed and glowing faces of the participants confirmed the success of the special endeavor to celebrate International Yoga Day.

The Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla reiterated the significance of Yoga in our life and urged everyone to make Yoga not just a day in a year but a journey, a gateway to accomplish happiness and well- being.

“Yoga is invigoration in relaxation.  Freedom in routine. Confidence through self -control.  Energy within and energy without.”
