Saplings of Solidarity: St. Joseph’s leads Plantation Drive with Passion and Purpose

Students studying

Joyce Kilmer once delivered his deepest appreciation for nature when he said- I think I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree. Only a patron of the wonders of nature can revel in its beauty and magic. One such community of devoted environmentalists is found under the arch of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44, Chandigarh. Harnessing the benefits of the misty weather on 31st July, Josephites in collaboration with five partner Government Schools launched a noble initiative of planting 100 Hibiscus saplings in the Garden of Annuals Part 1, Sector 44 as a promise to the future inhabitants of mother earth.

Welcoming the Chief Guest Ms. Shipra Bansal, Chairperson, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) and Special Guests Mr. Kirandeep Singh, SDO Horticulture, Chandigarh, Mr. Ashni Kumar, Executive Engineer and Mr. Navjeet Singh, Junior Engineer felt like welcoming old friends into a shared vision. Without hesitation, they walked alongside rooting saplings with faith in community action. Their active presence in this endeavour reaffirmed the commitment towards making The City Beautiful even more beautiful.

The honour of collaborating with the Government Schools became a praiseworthy cornerstone in the life of the plantation drive, sending their students not as mere volunteers, but as gentle emissaries of a greener future. With hands in the earth and eyes lit with conviction, their presence transformed the cause, imbuing the effort with the grace of intention. In choosing to walk this path, the school revealed an understanding of education as something that breathes through action, shaped not by instruction alone but by the soil, the sun, and the shared future it dares to imagine. The support of the Principals of collaborating government schools served as the backbone of this initiative and Josephites were utterly grateful for their resolve of united action.

The Members of the Management Mr. Paramdeep S. Grewal and Mr. Sukhdeep S. Grewal shared immense optimism in the plantation project, encouraged by the thoughtful direction the school continues to take in creating experiences for learning and leading. The Principal Ms. Monica Chawla expressed sincere gratitude for the opportunity to be a host of the plantation drive, highlighting its role in shaping awareness and responsibility among students. She spoke with pride about the initiative’s success and the school’s growing commitment to meaningful change.
