Empowering Young Citizens: St. Joseph’s Commemorates Constitution Day with SLSA Chandigarh

Students studying

St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Chandigarh, observed Indian Constitution Day on 26th November 2025 in collaboration with the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA), Chandigarh, reaffirming its commitment to nurturing informed, responsible, and socially conscious young citizens.

The programme was graced by Mr. Arun Kumar Aggarwal, Additional District & Sessions Judge and Member Secretary, SLSA Chandigarh. His insightful address on the theme “Constitutional Values and Responsible Citizenship” engaged students meaningfully and encouraged them to reflect on the role they play in strengthening democratic values.

In his talk, Mr. Aggarwal highlighted that the Constitution is not merely a legal reference but a guiding framework designed to ensure justice, dignity, and equality for all citizens. He spoke about the importance of understanding Fundamental Rights and emphasised that civic responsibility goes hand in hand with constitutional privileges.

He further shed light on provisions laid out for the marginalised sections of society, including the role of the Legal Services Authorities Act, which ensures free legal aid to those who cannot afford legal representation. Students gained clarity on how the justice system works to protect the vulnerable and ensure fairness within society.

Reflecting on the drafting of the Constitution, Mr. Aggarwal acknowledged it as one of India’s most defining achievements — crafted with foresight, resilience, and a deep commitment to a democratic future by eminent Indian dignitaries. Through relatable examples and meaningful insights, he encouraged students to view the Constitution as a living document that shapes rights, responsibilities, and national identity.

The interactive session fostered a sense of respect and curiosity among learners, many of whom expressed that the Constitution now feels more relevant and connected to everyday life. The message resonated clearly: citizenship is not passive — it is participatory, ethical, and continuous.

Principal Mrs Monica Chawla addressed the gathering and expressed her appreciation for the initiative. She highlighted that programmes like these help students move beyond textbook knowledge and deepen their understanding of justice, compassion, and civic responsibility. She also conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the guest speaker for inspiring students with clarity and purpose.

The event concluded on a hopeful and purposeful note, reaffirming the belief that when young minds understand the spirit of the Constitution, they become active contributors to the nation’s progress. The school looks forward to continuing such purposeful engagements that strengthen constitutional awareness and empower students as future custodians of democracy.
