The Ranjit House of St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School in collaboration with the English Club organized a debate on “Should Electing the President of India be Solely on the Credentials of the Individual” for the students of Secondary Block on 29 July, 2017. The President of the Republic of India is the Head of State of India and the Commander-in chief of the Indian Armed Forces. The Election Commission is mandated to ensure that the election to the office of the President of India, which is the highest elective office in the nation, must be a free and fair election. So his wise selection is a sensitive issue.
Following the same the debate initiated with full zest among the participants. The participants had left no stone unturned in researching their topics and presenting them convincingly, followed by a rebuttal among the shortlisted ones. The audience too became vigilant and posed relevant questions which acted as a catalyst in promoting the discussion. the debate enabled the debaters to elucidate their standpoint by utilizing rhetorical eloquence, instilled confidence and taught the skill of researching, organizing and presenting information in a compelling fashion.
Ms Navleen Kaur Nahar, HOD, Social Science and Ms Prabhjot, Student Counsellor had kindly consented to be the jury. Aman Bansal, bagged the first position, Tanseerat, second and Nandini got the third position. The judges, at the end, motivated the students to continue participating with the same zeal.
