St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh successfully hosted the CBSE Taekwondo North II Zonal XV- XVIII, held over the last three days. Around 250 schools, with nearly 1500 students from various states of the North, participated in three categories i.e. Under 14, Under 17 and Under 19 in the event .
The event drew to a close on 7th October,2018 in a spectacular ceremony where the participants were felicitated with trophies, medals and certificates. The Closing Ceremony was presided over by Mr. Tejdeep Singh, (PCS) Director of Sports who received a warm welcome by Director Rupinder Grewal. He was accompanied by Mr. Ankur Choudhary (CBSE Observer) and Mr. C.R. Narayan IRS (retd) (President Chandigarh Taekwondo Association) While addressing the gathering, Mr. Tejdeep Singh emphasized the importance of Sports in one’s life. He added that Taekwondo helps students as well as adults to strike a perfect balance between physical fitness and mental ability. He reiterated that winning or losing is a part of life, the most important thing was participating. He went on to motivate the students by saying that one must never give up no matter what. He praised the team of St. Joseph’s who worked round the clock to ensure the smooth running of the whole event.
The Josephians gave the participants a warm send off and added a zing to the occasion with their song and dance performances. Director Rupinder Grewal applauded the children for their courage and never say die spirit. Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla congratulated all the winners and appreciated the hard work put in by all the participants. She said it gave her immense pleasure to host the clusters especially for Taekwondo- a sport that inculcates a sense of discipline and self defense, both of which are incredibly valuable in the trying times we live in. She was also happy to note that the number of female contestants has been increasing over the years which depicts a positive change in the mindset of our society. Ms. Chawla thanked the CBSE for providing a platform for students of several states to gather under one roof wherein they got an opportunity to mingle and acquire an insight into one another’s unique culture. She concluded by thanking the entire Josephian family -especially the Physical Education Faculty and Coordinators by felicitating them on stage. She added that the tournament would never have achieved the triumph it has, without the support of her teachers, students and staff and thanked them for their untiring efforts in ensuring that the event was a grand success.
