In today’s virtual world, our younger generation has become so much tech savvy that it doesn’t know much about our ancient postal system. They are familiar with e-mails and SMS but are unaware of the manual mailing system. To equip the students with the practical knowledge of the functions of the Postal department, a Visit to Post Office was conducted in Kindergarten wing of St.Joseph’s Sr.Sec.School, Sector 44 D, Chandigarh. As Diwali festival is round the corner, an activity of Diwali Card making was held few days prior to the students’ Visit to Post Office wherein tiny tots made beautiful Diwali greeting cards for their loved ones, kept it in a stamped envelope bearing their home address and then during their visit dropped it themselves in the letter box. They were shown various counters, inland letters, postcards and a number of stamps there. They were also apprised of the process of the segregation and dispatching of letters and clearance of the letter box. The children were so much excited when they saw the postman in brown uniform with a bag full of letters. They were encouraged to write letters in their own handwriting that would help them not only in improving their writing skills but also develop a strong relationship with their loved ones. This was truly an enriching and educative visit for the josephians.
