Under the flagship of Van Mahotsav-2019, celebrated by the department of forest and wildlife, Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with Yuvsatta- an environmental NGO celebrated the Herbal Day at St. Josephs Sr. Sec. School. Mr. Dabendra Dalai, the chief conservator of forests and director of environment of environment of UT, Chandigarh and Mr. Pramod were the guests of honor.Existence of human beings in the absence of nature is just like a dry weed. The spicy trees, the tasty delicacies along with medicinal herbs, etc. are the real essence of life. The celebration of the Herbal Day generated awareness on the medicinal values of various plants available in nature and sensitized the students to make our surroundings more clean and green. The pledge of ‘I own a herb’ was taken by each Josephian of classes IV, V and VI.Many students participated in the plantation drive wherein different types of medicinal plants Neem, Aloe Vera, Basil, Gilay, etc were planted. The programme commenced with a welcome song sung by the students. Activities like show and tell, Stand up comedy, Advertisement on conservation of water and herbs were presented by the young and vivacious students. A street play was also enacted by the young Josephians who highlighted the pivotal role of nature in our life.
The celebration was an ideal opportunity to instill the value of social responsibility in the students towards the importance of herbs in our life. The event helped to bring awareness about the herbs around us and strengthen the bond between the plants and humans.
The Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla presented a sapling of herbal plant to the chief guest. She said that it is the responsibility of each citizen to not only grow but also taking care and protecting them. She further emphasized about the need of herbal plants in curing day-to-day health problems and exhorted the school children to be sensitive towards nature.
