To mark the National Sports Day in India the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi spoke on ‘The Fit India Campaign entitled Fitness Mission. St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh gave the opportunity to its students to hear the PM live as the spoke from the Indira Gandhi Stadium. The sports minister spoke about how culture in India is combined with fitness. The Surya Namaskar and various dances from different state were performed at the inauguration ceremony.As the PM took centre stage he began by mentioning that not only students but every adult has a child within and must therefore be a learner as we remain students for a lifetime. The PM gave a glorious tribute to the legendary Major Dhyanchand who mesmerized the world with his ftness, stamina and hockey stick. The PM also emphasized that performing in dances and cultural events was an exercise in itself. He also mentioned that gum were jot necessary for training as a mass movement in exercise was required as a fit country would mean a fit nation. The PM also spoke of this day being nation. The PM also spoke of this day being significant and he dedicated it to athletes who perspired a lot to achieve tremendous feats”. He also said that “Fitness is not a word but a condition to keep the body & soul healthy”.
Another relevant aspects the PM touched upon was that today unfortunately technology guides our every step. He mentioned of how blindly people follow instructors without really understanding anything about fitness. He said that today people eat double and then preach about a good diet.During the course of his speech, the PM spoke of lifestyle disorders and diseases like hypertension, heart attacks etc. A mention of Mann Kaur, a 104 year old lady left the students impressed as the PM mentioned about her fitness at this ripe old age. Even certain disabled people on wheelchairs gave immense hope, for anyone could take on a fitness regime said the PM.
