Students of the Secondary Block from St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School sector 44 visited the district court on 21 September. These are the students from the Legal Literacy Club who were accompanied by Legal Literacy Club Incharge Ms. Simran. The visit turned out to be a fruitful and extremely informative one, as the topics discussed by the coordinator of the District Legal Services Authority, Mr. Neil Roberts were indeed useful and interesting at the same time. Students were shown the functioning of the Lok Adalats- indeed beneficial and so very important for young budding legal minds. Also, worthwhile topics were discussed by Neil Roberts which included the working of criminal and civil cases. Students were also told of the career choices in the field of law. Different types of bails were discussed that are instrumental in the field of study.Other relevant topics were those relating to the promotion of lawyers and the significance of the co-operative law.
Ms.Shyama Dogra, who is currently the chairperson of the Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services) also addressed the curious and inquisitive little minds. Ms. Shyama spoke on the sexual abuse and drugs- necessary information, so very crucial to impart to young students in their growing years. The visit turned out to be productive as these students got a first hand experience of courts and their functioning. It is also imparted an insight into what goes on every day in the legal justice system and enables students to see advocates in practice. Most importantly, it would help the children to decide whether or not a legal career is what they would wish to pursue, since it is highly challenging as well as competitive these days.
The principal Ms. Monica Chawla has always been encouraging teachers to take the students out on such significant visits that are instrumental in furthering the learning process. The students returned after the fruitful visit- definitely more clued up in the working of the judicial system of our country.
