St. Joseph’s School Chandigarh celebrated World Senior Citizens’ Day to support honour and appreciation to senior citizens and to recognize the achievements and contributions they make to the community. Josephites visited an Old Age Home and spent time with the elderly residents. They encouraged the elders to share their experiences with them and played many interesting games to cheer them up. A lecture was delivered by the students of Secondary Block highlighting the fact that the seniors are important because if given opportunity, they have much to teach us. Seniors are important because they can be helpful in our applying lessons of life e.g. self-esteem, self respect and self discipline. A video was shown which laid emphasis upon reflecting best practice lessons and progress about the goal to change negative narratives and stereo types involving old age.
Educators had a talk with Josephians on the need to make children recognize and appreciate the elderly population for their values and contributions made to their families and society.
School Principal Ms. Monica Chawla appreciated the efforts, saying senior citizens are like a big tree that save us from the scorching heat and rain and no society can succeed without the cultural heritage and blessings of elderly people. She stressed upon the need to understand the problems elderly people face, address their needs and to solve issues concerning them for benefits for the long run.
