On the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 550th birth anniversary, St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44 Chandigarh organised numerous activities to commemorate the special day with fervour and delight. At the outset of the sacred day, the closely knit school family offered prayers which was followed by a Punjabi poem recitation by the students who chose from the rich collection of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s poems.
A declamation was held shortly in the premises thereafter on the teachings and preachings of the very first of the ten Gurus of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of this great religion audience who lived a legendary life right from his birth which was in a Hindu family. Many entrancing stories and miracles pertaining to the life and travels of the great Guru came forth and enlightened the audience. The students also exhibited their singing talent during the pious Shabd Gayan which was followed by the sacred ‘PrabhatFeri’. The Prabhat Feri is an age old ritual that means taking mini processions in the neighbourhood at the crack of dawn. This was a thoroughly sanctifying experience for each member of the school. And, it has indeed left an everlasting and profound mark. It is imperative that we ponder over and imbibe Guru Nanak’s preachings in our lives to ascertain the answers to the questions we are constantly seeking.. The day concluded with the blessings sought from Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the distribution of the customary ‘KarahPrasad’ to everyone.
