The Primary Block at St Joseph’s Sr. Secondary School, Sector 44 D, had their annual day function on the 30th of November, where the students danced their way to the hearts of the audience with their memorable performances. The cultural show was packed with traditional Indian and Western Dances. The ambience of the school was different as it was filled by the sound of melodious songs, merriment and a splash of colour and vibrance. The chief-guests were the honourable Mr. Mahavir Singh, who was the Additional District and Sessions Judge, posted as Member Secretary State Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh. Ms. Alka Mehta, who was the Assistant Director Education with Additional Charge of MC and has recently joined as DEO also graced the occasion.A variety of Indian dances left the audience spell bound. A Rajasthani folk dance captivated the audience as children , in the colourful traditional costumes portrayed the courageous warriors returning home after a hard- fought battle. The dance entitled ‘Salaam-e-Bapu’ paid a glorious tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary. The struggle and sacrifices of the Mahatma and the reforms introduced by him, were highlighted through this dance. Another dance ‘the Call of Courage’ touched everyone in the audience. This hard – hitting contemporary dance conveyed the all important message of the dire need to support and encourage women to raise their voice against injustice. Women are the embodiment of strength and dignity – a message powerfully conveyed. A unique kathak fusion called ‘Ankle bells’ was indeed special as, the graceful dancers showcased the ritual dances and influences of the Bhakti Movement. The dance was the perfect blend and balance of perfection and beauty. From the state of Kerala, came the enthralling dance – ‘The waves of Kerala’ which displayed the longing of a person to return back to his state as it beckoned him, with its stunning palm lined beaches and soothing backwaters.
Western dances kept the audience engrossed as they saw a free style dance that gave the viewers a reality check on the usage of mobiles. A motivational dance – ‘Rise n Shine’ conveyed the message to always remain positive in life. The viewers applauded for the dance – ‘Mission, I’m Possible’ which showcased the zeal and dedication of the Indian Scientists and wished them success for their future missions. A one of a kind fashion show was hugely appreciated The show ,’An ear to the Earth’s heart beat’ brought forward the idea of why, we as humans, must value Mother Earth – the story of our planet was indeed ,well told. The ever popular Bhangra stole many hearts as children danced their way to the hearts of the audience.
The chief – guest and special invitees, the parents, were all praise for the function. The Chief-Guest in his speech rated St. Joseph’s as one of the three top schools in the Tricity – thus giving the institution its due. He appreciated the wonderful items performed and was all praise for the tributes paid to Mahatma Gandhi and Guru Nanak Dev Ji, as this was an important year of celebrations for these icons of India. He stressed on the need for parents and teachers to work together for the well-being of the child. He also mentioned of the need to spend maximum quality time with children. He gave credit to the Management and the Principal for honouring the parents for the outstanding achievements of their wards. –Major contributors to the success of the show were the young Primary Wing comperes who single handedly steered the way with their powerful oratory skills. The school has initiated various note worthy programmes. Under the star parent award programme, 20 parents were honoured by the Chief Guest for their wards excelling in numerous spheres. The efforts of the institution towards the holistic development of students has always been appreciated. The endeavours in the academic and non academic arenas were acknowledged when the annual report was read out. The Principal Ms. Monica Chawla lauded the tireless efforts of the students , choreographers and staff members. The members of the Management – Mr Rupinder Singh, Mr Sukhdeep Singh and Mr. Paramdeep S Grewal expressed their heartful gratitude to the teachers for bringing out the talents of the students and felt happy that the students put up a show that was indeed spectacular. They also wished the students the very best for their future endeavours. The day was indeed special both for the viewers and performers- surely to remember St. Joseph’s fondly ,for yet another power packed and unforgettable experience.
