To mark an all important National Girl Child Day, which is held every year on the 24th of January, the students of the secondary block at St. Joseph’s conducted numerous activities. A skit was performed by students that conveyed a powerful message that a baby girl is one of God’s most precious gifts. Meaningful banners were displayed that carried significant messages like- ‘Let the girl child see this world’, ‘Don’t let the life of a girl child end before it begins’. Other relevant activities laying emphasis on this theme were also organized- these included Slogan writing and Essay writing.
A staff member Ms. Manjit, spoke on this issue and lay stress on the fact that girls are the pillars of a society and should be valued and respected. She mentioned that gender should not determine whether you get an education. As is said- ‘no girl, no mother, no life’, was well conveyed to the students.
A pledge on ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ was also taken. This solemn pledge was taken by about 700 students and it emphasised on eliminating gender bias that threatens the birth and survival of the girl child. It stressed on ensuring that girls are born, loved and nurtured to become equal and empowered citizens of the country. The pledge required of the students to solemnly resolve to spread the message of saving and educating the girl child.
Finally the students at St. Joseph’s took away an all important learning on this day i.e. an educated girl has direction, she has hope and will become a mentor to other girls. She is the one who can bring a change in the world. Girls are the spirit of our nation- Save them and stop their exploitation.
