St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh marked International Mother Language Day that is celebrated every year on 21st February. The main purpose of celebrating this day is to promote the awareness of language and cultural diversity all across the world. Fostering multilingualism for inclusion in education and society, boosts the support of mother tongues, both at school and in everyday life.
Languages, are of strategic importance for people to safeguard their identity and to enhance communication, social integration, education as well as development. Thus, the Josephians got a wonderful opportunity to partake in activities that helped to create awareness regarding linguistic and cultural diversity.
The students enthusiastically prepared the Bulletin Board with vibrant balloons that showcased the different Indian states and greetings written in their vernacular languages. Another Josephian eloquently recited a poem ‘Matribhasha ka Mahatva’. A short film ‘Apni Bhasha Apna Maan’ was also made which depicted the importance of one’s Mother Tongue and instilling a feeling of pride.
The students had a great time and their efforts were lauded by Principal Ms. Monica Chawla. She motivated students to learn and explore all the languages and give them their due respect.
