‘SCHOOL SWACHHATA AMBASSADORS’ ORIENTATION WORKSHOP AT ST. JOSPEH’S

ST. JOSEPH’S SEN. SEC. SCHOOL, CHANDIGARH conducted an Orientation workshop in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration and Yuvsatta (NGO) on 6th March,for Swachhta Ambassadors under the theme-My School-My pledge(planner for the next year Eco-Club activities). The Organisers planned to appoint a teacher and two students of the city, who were prominent Ambassadors of this movement in their school community. In their agenda, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene was of prime importance. In an attempt to give a fillip to Swachh Bharat, Swachh Vidyalaya programme, young students and teachers were lauded for their contribution towards theSwachh Bharat Abhiyan’. Dr Abdul Qayum (IFS) Dy. Conservator of Forest & Addl. CEO, CREST, Chandigarh Administration graced the occasion as the Chief guest along with, Mr. Promod Sharma, President Yuvsatta and Ms Ishita, Project Officer,Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.Fifty schools from the city participated in the programme. The Co-ordinator, Ms Shimmi Jassal was the teacher –ambassador whereas Joanna Kajal (IXC) and Manmohan Singh Kainth (VIII B) were chosen as student – ambassadors.
The programme commenced with a song to welcome the Eco-club Ambassadors.The chief- guest Dr. Qayum appreciated the school’s role in Eco club mission and assured the full assistance of environment department in future endeavours. Ms Ishita laid stress on conducting cleanliness activities in schools to motivate young students in the Eco -Club campaign. Mr Promod ,the president, Yuvsatta praised the efforts of the institution in the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan Campaign.
The Principal Ms Monica Chawla spoke about the Eco-club activities for 2021-2022. She highlighted the importance of 3M’s – Mentoring, Motivation and Monitoring. She shared the concept of ‘Green Dollars’ that students have to earn as an incentive and also spoke on the various ways of waste management. As a part of joyful learning ways, she mentioned herbal gardening and kitchen gardening and correlated them with important life skills. She suggested a proposal of initiating the Eco-Club youtube channel and emphasized the need for all schools to work together towards a common mission of promoting the Eco campaign. Under ‘My school- My pledge’ programme, various group activities were conducted, which is a unique experience in itself. The newly initiated Eco- programmes at St. Joseph’s like Eco – brick, Organic compost, Water conservation and E-waste were elaborated by the School Head- girl Shreya Chawla (XII), the Vice-Head boy, Eeshan Khanagwal (X), Adya Tandon (VII G) and Saanvi Singh (VII A), respectively. Cabinet members emphasized the significance of these programmes for inspiring and encouraging the youth to be ambassadors for these initiatives, in the years to come.
The Eco-club members of St. Joseph’s expressed their views on Eco – awareness and the role of eco studies in the curriculum through a presentation. They shared the basic layout of Eco Club activities and their implementation. The Swachhata Ambassadors were presented badges and certificates by the Chief guest DR. Abdul Qayum. The guests were honoured with planters as a token of respect. The ambassadors were given creative takeaways and wonderful table mats on which meaningful cleanliness quotes were written. All the members were given small cards in which the members wrote beautiful eco-messages and placed on the school gate.
The Principal and Management Members expressed gratitude in her vote of thanks speech for getting an opportunity to be a part of the programme and appreciated the efforts to promote the ‘Swachh Bharat Programme.’They also applauded the endeavours of the school and Eco – Club members in moving forward towards a purposeful and fruitful mission.
