“Let’s join hands on Earth Day to make our earth a better place to live in”. Keeping this beautiful thought in the mind, students of ST. JOSEPH’S SR. SEC. SCHOOL, CHANDIGARH celebrated Earth Day with full zest and enthusiasms.
The celebration was aimed at appreciating the uniqueness of our planet and educating the students about the consequences of ill-treating the planet. Earth Day has been held annually on April 22 since its inception in 1970.
Pertaining to this year’s theme of Climate Action, Coloring Competition and activities like poem recitation, talks were conducted for the students of Primary block to stimulate their interest in environmental causes and at the same time gave a platform to showcase their artistic and creative skills. They also urged people to use recyclable materials in contributing towards wellness of environment. The little ones of Kindergarten block seemed very curious as they did seed germination activity. The students sowed a few seeds of rajma, black gram and moong dal in paper cups and they were told to take care of these by keeping them in the sun and watering every day. The little ones were also encouraged to plant a tree on their birthdays along with their parents.
Coordinators also encouraged the children to develop a continuing compassion for Mother Earth and thus making a difference.
‘The Earth does not belong to us; we belong to the Earth’.
