World Technology Day

Channelising the creativity of the students and to provide a perfect platform for students to hone their scientific skills and to sensitize them about the scientific progress that India has made till date, World Technology Day was celebrated at St.Joseph’s Sr.Sec.School,Sector 44D Chandigarh with a great zeal and enthusiasm.
The aim behind celebration was to highlight the achievements of our engineers and scientists in the field of Technology and Science. The teachers enlightened the students regarding the history of the day. They became aware that after immense breakthroughs by scientists and engineers and technicals in India Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced May 11 as National Technology Day. The ministry of Science and Technology sets a theme for National Technology day every year as a symbol of creativity and scientific inquiry. Apart from missile tests,Defence Research and Development Organisation also conducted the last test- fire of Trishul missile introduced by the IAF and the Indian army. This day marks the anniversary of Pokhran nuclear tests of 1998 and India’s technological advancements in this space.
Every year this day is celebrated by presenting awards to the noteworthy individuals and businesses for their contributions in the field of Technology and Science.
Keeping in mind the significance of this day, the Primary 1 and Primary 2 and Middle Blocks of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector-44D, Chandigarh organized a multitude of activities to create interest and awareness about science and technology amongst the students.
Students of Primary-1 block of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School were acquainted with researches in the field of technology as a reminder of the country’s technological advancements.
Teachers highlighted India’s achievement in the areas of space, atomic energy, IT etc. through PPT, poem, facts and videos. The main objective was to stress on importance of technology in the field of human welfare like energy production, medicine, health and environmental issues. Children were explained that five nuclear tests were done under at Pokhran. So young Josephites were inspired on this day to pursue and achieve goals in the field of science and technology.
Young Josephians carved out beautiful table lamps and handy mobile phones using the waste material like old plastic bottles, boxes, cans and cardboards. The contribution of Indian scientists and their inventions was very thoughtfully reflected through the Collage Making activity and creatively designed balloons by the students.
The activities proved successful in exhibiting the innovative capabilities of the students and to inspire them to inculcate scientific bent of mind to contribute to the nation building through their competency and talent.
The day witnessed an incomparable spirit of verve and vitality amongst the students of Middle Block as well. For testing the student’s knowledge and awareness about their scientists’ Poster Making Competition ‘was organised on the topic -Missile Woman of India. Josephites put on their thinking caps and exhibited their thoughts through their artwork .They took up this challenge and did their best to express their ideas through posters using words and colours carefully. It was a splendid show of master strokes by our young and talented artists from class 8th. The competition was like an extravagance for the young painters and the spectators as well as they have used the brilliance of painting blended with the perception displayed on the painting sheets.The highlight of the day was the PowerPoint Presentation Competition on the topic ‘Role of Technology in Pandemic’ conducted to boost speaking and presentation skills of the students.
Presentations were judged for originality and creativity, organization of content, oral presentation, knowledge of the material, animations, and overall presentation. To provide opportunitiy to the students to articulate their scientific vision ‘Paragraph Writing Competition on the by topic of ‘Pros and Cons of Technology’ wherein students came out with brilliant ideas and thoughts.
The revered Principal Ms Monica Chawla added that the motive behind celebration is not only to emphasize on Science and Technology but to bring about a scientific temperament in the society. We should get freedom from all our superstitious beliefs that combat ones personal growth. Student should be aware of latest technology and all the required skills like critical thinking ,emotional intelligence to become employable and successful in their respective fields.
