World Telecommunication day marked with zeal and fervour at St. Joseph’s
St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Chandigarh marked World Telecommunication Day with a plethora of activities. The day is celebrated on 17th May since 1969. This day celebrates such an important aspect of human life i.e. Communication. It is said that “Communication is the real work of leadership and any sufficiently advanced technology is equivalent to the magic.” The main goal of World Telecommunication Day is to highlight the importance of communication and how information travels across the world. The purpose of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide. The COVID-19 crisis has not only highlighted the critical role of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for the continued functioning of societies but has also brought to the fore the startling digital inequalities between and within countries.
The Secondary Block students participated in various activities with great zeal and enthusiasm. The young learners displayed their artistic skills through an array of posters. Josephites also made beautiful collages exhibiting the posters. In the Sr. Secondary Block, the educators gave a talk in the class on the topic. An informative video on the significance of the day was shown to the students followed by a discussion session between teachers and students.
The School Principal praised the efforts of Josephians and the staff members. She added that IT and digital technologies have enabled people to update themselves with the latest research work during the pandemic. Healthcare organizations and governments are making use of information technology to improve public health worldwide. ICT created alternative learning pathways through digital technologies and online educator resources which bridged the gap in the academic year and online teaching training programmes equipped the teachers with latest pedagogical techniques .Telecommunication is indeed the key to human connection and brings a beacon of hope to millions across the globe.
