Little kids learnt ‘Segregation of Waste’
Waste segregation is important as it makes the process of recycling easier. When you segregate waste at home daily, you are winning half the battle as a responsible citizen. Hence to sensitize little Josephians, the teachers of Kindergarten block at St Joseph’s Sr Sec School Sector 44 D Chandigarh held ‘Segregation of Waste’ activity virtually.
They played short awareness videos and informed the kids about wet and dry waste i.e. wet waste is all the kitchen waste that we produce. This can include vegetable peels, used tea, fruits, leftovers, etc. whereas dry waste comprises of things like paper, glass, plastic, cardboard, rubber, metal, food packaging material etc.
In order to recycle in a productive and efficient way, we must avoid cross-contamination of dry and wet waste. Children were guided to have two garbage disposal bins at home, blue for dry waste and green for wet waste.
Later teachers showed dry and wet waste to students, asked them to identify and then disposed of, in blue and green bins accordingly.
The activity played a substantial role in making kids realize their responsibility to reduce pollution and save environment.
