“When one plants a tree, they plant themselves.
Every root is an anchor, over which one rests with grateful interests,
And becomes sufficiently calm to feel the joy of living.”
-John Muir
A week -long celebration of Vanmahotsav was marked by an array of activities at St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School. A staunch believer of the philosophy that trees are the lifelines for humans and Earth’s very own lungs, the Josphians have always been actively promoting and following the goals of Sustainable Development.
Vanmahotsav is a week-long festival celebrated in India in the month of July with an aim of planting as many trees as possible to make up for the years of damage caused by us humans to the vast wealth we are blessed with. Urbanization and Industrialization has led humans to cut down trees and create a concrete jungle as far as the eye can see. This has entirely and completely disturbed the balance of nature and caused numerous problems like climate change, melting of the ice caps and unprecedented heat to name a few. Many species of plants and animals have been driven to the verge of extinction because of the reckless behavior of humans.
In an attempt to do our bit to restore the balance, the students of Middle Block at St Joseph’s participated in activities like,’Ped Ugao, Paryavaran Bachao’, ‘Bijli Bachao’ and ‘Paani Bachao’, etc. in the form of poster making, collages, short videos and Vlogs. The children also extended their gratitude to mother earth by planting saplings in the neighbourhood. The aim of the activities was to create awareness and to stress upon the dire need to conserve our environment not just on the landmark days like the Vanmahotsav but as a part of our daily lives.
The celebration ended on a resolute note where the entire Josephian fraternity pledged to make contribution towards making the planet a better place to live.
The Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla applauded the tremendous efforts of the students and encouraged them to follow the techniques of sustainable development to create a win-win situation for everyone- happy humans and happy environment.
