WORLD DAY FOR INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE MARKED AT ST. JOSEPH’S SCHOOL
To mark ‘World International Justice day’, which is celebrated across the globe on the 17th of July every year, the Secondary block of the school conducted a discussion on the topic on ,” There is no freedom without Justice “. The students spoke on various aspects that were related to the given topic. Some expressed their views on issues such as racial discrimination , the refugee crisis , the massacre at the Jallianwala Bagh , the horrors of the crimes against the Jews by Adolf Hitler and the 2008 Mumbai attacks that shook the entire nation .
Students of class X , discussed on the unfortunate incident of racial discrimination that took place in May 2020 in the USA . In the interaction , the youngsters expressed their opinions on the George Flyod case and related it to the series of acts of racist violence against the Black Americans, which illustrates an astounding level of discrimination . Students vociferously put forth their views on how the families of such victims are traumatized through various testimonies . The arrest and conviction of the police officer Derek Chauvin , was indeed justice done for a heinous crime committed. Nelson Mandela rightly stated that ,” the dead cannot cry out for justice. It is the duty of the living to do so for them .” Well said and well understood after this case was brought to it’s rightful conclusion .
In having these all important discussions , children learn that behind the concept of Justice, lies the notion of balance and that people get what is right , fair and appropriate . After the exchange of ideas amongst children , the teachers conveyed relevant messages to their students . Some takeaways were on how worldwide, people aspire for peace and justice as well as the importance of respecting the rule of law and human dignity. The essence of this discourse was “, that right is right , even if everyone is wrong and wrong is wrong , even if everyone is for it .”
The World International Day for Justice thus becomes a relevant day to mark especially for young minds, the future of nations . It is they , who understand through such discourses, that without justice in the world , we cannot have peace , since both are intertwined . “True peace is not merely the absence of war , it is the presence of Justice .”
The Principal Ms. Monica Chawla , was appreciative of the initiative of Ranjit House for conducting this meaningful discussion . She quoted Martin Luther King who stated that ,” our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter .”
Thus, concluded a significant activity on a great note –“ Justice delayed is Justice denied but Justice hurried is Justice buried .”
