World Population Day is an annual event, observed globally on July 11 every year, to garner world attention on the urgency and importance of population issues . With the current global population at 7.9 billion and an estimate of 9 billion people by 2050, World Population Day assumes paramount importance because it highlights the problems of increasing population and raises awareness about the effects of over population on the environment and planet. The development and operations of a country hugely depend upon the size of its population. Hence curbing the situation of overpopulation is necessary, be it on a country’s level or a global level for the sustainable development of our available resources.

Hence Primary II block of St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44 D, Chandigarh celebrated the virtual World Population Day to increase the awareness among the students towards the worldwide population issues as well as sustainable future for the children.

The students took up this challenge and did their best to express their ideas through posters, slogans and videos.

It was amazing to see how the young students expressed their serious concerns that if the world’s population continues to grow at such a fast pace, can create serious imbalance for the environment.
