THE ECO CLUB OF ST. JOSEPH’S SCHOOL SHOWS THE WAY BY DISTRIBUTING VALUABLE SAPLINGS AND HERBAL PLANTS
“Why try to explain miracles to your kids when you can just have them plant a garden “
The most active and recognized club of the school, the Eco Club aptly called the ‘Green Saviours’, has been doing a tremendous job in empowering students to take up meaningful environmental activities and projects. However, this past year was different as students were unable to be a part of many activities. So, the Incharges of the Green Saviours Club, took it upon themselves to do the Nobel task of distribution and plantation of trees. Apart from planting numerous varieties of Herbal plants in the school premises, they also gave away more than 100 plants in the Sector 44 Gurudwara, the Mandir, Church, Govt.school, Sector 22 slum area and many other adjoining places. These plants were also given at different parks and NGO’s. Saplings of the Jamun tree, the Majestic Arjun tree and the valuable Neem and Amla plants were also gifted, a gesture that was much appreciated. “Green is not something you can buy. Green is a way of life.” Indeed, the teachers showed the way for many to emulate.
The closure of schools has made it difficult to make students do these activities, where in the past, it was a great platform for students to engage themselves, their friends, neighbors and parents to promote and improve their immediate environment. The Eco club also generated awareness and enabled students to take up activities in the real world in such a way, which the constraints of the classroom often did not permit. Unfortunately, we as humans seem to be unaware of the consequences when nature will no longer support us. This is the reason why, such wonderful deeds of planting trees all around our surroundings, becomes increasingly relevant. As the students see their teachers distributing the young plants, they surely evolve their thought process to respect the Earth. It intensifies the responsiveness of children towards the environment and its concerns. The act of coming forward and doing a good deed would teach them, that planting trees is indeed to “give body and life to one’s dreams for a better world”.
The Members of the Management Director Shri. Rupinder Grewal, Mrs. Harjinder Kaur, Mr. Sukhdeep Grewal and Mr. Paramdeep Grewal congratulated the entire Team and complimented them on their indefatigable efforts to always be ready to go the extra mile in order to sustain and elevate the betterment of the environment.
It is the initiative of the Principal Ms. Monica Chawla, that has enabled the Eco Club members to better themselves each year and win the prestigious Eco Club award for five consecutive years, an achievement of sorts. The Herbal Garden Award has also been conferred to the school.
The school has celebrated Van Mahotsav and Nature Conservation Day each year with great enthusiasm and fervor. It is in marking these all-important days and doing purposeful acts of planting trees and distributing them, that students learn that, “he who plants trees, loves others besides himself. “What a valuable lesson for the future generations of this great Nation.
