International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition Celebrated
In order to sensitise the students about the human suffering and rights, International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition was celebrated by the Secondary block Students of St Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44, Chandigarh on 23 August using the virtual platform.
The students participated in a number of activities designed to make the students conscious of the human evolvement from slavery to freedom. Students were given an insight into the Transatlantic triangular slave trade carried out in Europe. Africa and America. In an innovative manner, students made Freedom Mats, depicting the slave trade, on the world map. They also made Symbols used by the slaves to chalk out escape routes from captivity.
The young learners were made to realise that This International Day is intended to inscribe the tragedy of the slave trade in the memory of all peoples and also to make them feel the value of the hard-earned Freedom and the need to preserve it.
The school Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla praised the creative effort of the students and the teacher’s endeavour to make the students responsible citizens. She also added the need to value the hard-earned freedom and ways to preserve it especially when the world around us is in unrest.
