 Insect Watching Activity

Insects are important because of their diversity, ecological role, human health, and natural resources. They are found in our surroundings. Children should be aware of these living beings. So to make this learning interesting, the teachers of Kindergarten block at St Joseph’s Sr Sec School Sector 44 D, Chandigarh conducted an online ‘Insect watching’ activity. They went to school garden with magnifying glasses and hunted for the insects while students were watching them online. They found butterflies, bees and ants. It was fascinating for them. The teachers imparted them some basic knowledge about these small creatures i.e. all insects have three parts of their bodies: the head, the abdomen, and the thorax. They have two antennae on their head and have six legs. By embracing the natural curiosity about bugs, we teach kids to work with nature rather than against it. They learn that even the tiniest creature can help make a difference in the natural world.

Later tiny tots also searched for the insects at their homes, lawns, nearby gardens and parks, found some of them and shared their photos with them.  The activity was a great learning with an element of fun.
