Rally Cum Walk the Talk to Raise Awareness of Ban of Single Use Plastic
“If plastic can’t be reduced, reused, repaired, rebuilt, refurbished, refinished, resold, recycled or composted, then it should be restricted, redesigned, or removed from production.”
-Pete Seeger
When humans choose to create a plastic pollution free world, it is a commitment that they make to themselves and the future generations towards saving the earth. Taking yet another step towards creating a sustainable environment, St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School joined hands with Youth Innovative Society, an NGO to raise awareness on the ban of single use plastic products through an initiative, ‘Rally and Walk the Talk with Public’. The event took place at the school premises and was presided over by Mr. Abdul Qayum, Deputy Conservator of Forests. The students staged an eye opening Nukkad Natak, sending across the message to the masses to stop the use of single use plastic products and to make environmental friendly choices. Inspiring songs, speeches and poems dedicated to mother earth roused the spirit to work in solidarity for the cause to save environment and humanity at large. The highlight of the programme was the rally, wherein the elated and aspiring Josephites walked to sector 44 markets with placards displaying slogans shouting out loud and pleading to the masses to say no to single use plastic and sharing environmental concerns caused by the same. The students urged the masses to use plastic substitutes and reduce and recycle plastic.
The chief guest, Mr. Qayum was all praises for the exemplary efforts and innovative programmes started by the school and the staff to train the young minds. He also enlightened the students about the gravity of the problem caused by the use of plastic products and stressed upon that the change can begin with us by saying no to plastic.
The Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla presented planters as souvenirs to the guests to mark the occasion. She and the Management members Mr. Sukhdeep Grewal and Mr. Paramdeep Grewal congratulated the students for being the role models in the direction of creating a sustainable environment. They reminded students of the innate potential that they had in bringing about a revolution, no matter what be the cause and urged them to continue in their earnest endeavours to create a Sustainable World- a world free of plastic.
