“Concepts are the keystones in the architecture of our thinking.”
Keeping this in mind a virtual ‘Float & Sink Activity’ was conducted for the little ones of Kindergarten Block of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44 D, Chandigarh. They were told to keep a tub full of water and put some pebbles, coins, paper boats, flower petals, plastic toys in the tub and observe that pebbles and coins which were heavy, settle down at the bottom while paper boats, plastic toys and petals which were light in weight, float on the surface of water. It was an experiential learning for tiny tots who were explained by their teachers that heavy objects sink in water whereas the lighter objects float on it. It was a fun frolic activity as they learnt the concept of heavy, light, float and sink. Also it helped them to leant new words in a fun filled way.
This activity helped to trigger their curious minds and motivated them to ask questions. Parents who have become the partners in teaching-learning these days, also appreciated the whole concept of teaching children practically.
