JOSEPHIANS OBSERVE THE IMPORTANT AND SIGNIFICANT NATURAL DISASTER REDUCTION DAY
Preparation through education is less costly than learning through tragedy.
The UN defines Disaster as “A serious disruption of the functioning of a community or society, involving widespread human, material, economic or environmental losses and impacts, that exceeds the ability of the affected community or society to cope within its own resources.” To improve understanding disaster risks, hazards, and vulnerabilities, the Secondary Block students of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School marked the International Natural Disaster reduction day by preparing various projects on disaster management in which Josephians showcased their immense talent in the most artistic way. A video was shown to the students, which equipped them with information pertaining to natural calamities. Educators made the students aware of the causes and effects of natural disasters along with disaster prevention, -mitigation and preparedness.
The School Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla, praised Josephites for their efforts on this all-important day and highlighted the need to sensitize everyone about natural disasters and also to be cautious about the impending dangers by adopting meticulous planning in case of any emergency. She added that many tragedies could be avoided or prevented if there are disaster risk reduction strategies to manage and reduce existing levels of risk and avoid creating new threats.
