‘It is Christmas every time you let God love others through you. Yes, it is Christmas every time you smile at your brother and offer him your hand.’ – Mother Teresa
Christmas – everyone’s favourite time of the year is just round the corner and the whole world is enveloped in the magical aura -all set to kindle the flame of generosity, kindness and charity in everyone’s hearts and souls.
Christmas at St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School is always a special event and Covid notwithstanding, this year too, the festival has been celebrated with full delectation and gusto with a whole week of festivities dedicated to capturing the true spirit of Christmas. The entire campus was all spruced and decked up for the event, replete with the Nativity Scene and the Christmas Tree taking pride of place in the reception area.
The Josephian family came up with a melange of activities that had everybody- right from the tiny tots of Kindergarten to the Senior students exhibiting their exclusive views on what Christmas really means to them. Videos relating the story of Christ’s birth and his teachings were shared in all the classes. Class Bulletin boards were embellished, depicting X-Mas themes- the Nativity scene, Bible quotes and Jesus Christ’s teachings, to imbibe the values spread by the Messiah. Carols sung by teachers and students in all classes added to the gaiety.
The angelic Kindergartners shared their creative skills by fashioning reindeer out of popsicle sticks and Santas, using origami sheets and cotton balls. All dressed in Christmas colours, they also danced their way into everyone’s hearts by shaking an enthusiastic leg along with their teachers, to Christmas carols.
The little ones of Primary I decorated Christmas trees, bells and Santa Claus while some students of the Primary II dressed up as little Santas, to deliver the message of peace and harmony and others wrote letters to Santa requesting him to fulfil their Christmas wishes.
Students of the Middle Block also made the most of the shindig by ensuring their classrooms were transformed into a winter wonderland, decorating them with balloons, festoons, bells, stars, lights, candy canes, stockings and wreaths. The story of Christ’s birth was also beautifully portrayed in the Nativity Play enacted by these students. The school choir comprising of Josephians from all classes, Primary I to Senior Secondary sang all the traditional carols, enabling everyone to encapsulate and express the joy and sacred devotion to the Son of God.
Mother Teresa once said that the child is the beauty of God present in the world, the greatest gift to a family. At. St. Joseph’s, it is considered one’s duty and privilege to spread a little of the cheer and bountiful blessings with the little ones who won’t be sharing Christmas with their families. Thus, the boundless joy and exuberance of the Christmas spirit was shared when the teachers of the institution, became Santas and visited the Paediatric Ward at PGI bearing gifts for the little ones as well as the care givers who welcomed them and were delighted to spend a few precious moments and stories of these bravehearts.
The Members of the School Management, Shri Rupinder Grewal, Mrs Harjinder Kaur, Mr. Sukhdeep Grewal and Mr. Paramdeep Grewal wished the staff and students on the occasion and praised the dedicated efforts put in by them to make the celebrations so special.
Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla also thanked everyone for adding such a charm to the festivities and applauded their efforts. The celebrations concluded with a promise from all the Josephians to feed the hungry, forgive the guilty, welcome the unwanted and care for everyone.
