 WORLD AIDS DAY

WORLD AIDS DAY MARKED AT ST. JOSEPH’S
“Dare to reach out your hand into the darkness to pull another into the light.”- Norman B. Rice
World AIDS Day is observed every year on December 1 to educate people and honour those who have lost their lives due to this deadly disease.
Under the series of events- ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, commemorating the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence- in order to create awareness on the dreaded disease of AIDS, the students of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh enacted a Nukkad Natak on the theme of the day -‘End Inequalities, End AIDS’ highlighting the fact that as much as the virus itself, the social stigma attached with it also greatly affects people.
The skit encompassed the challenges faced by people afflicted by AIDS depicting their struggle and pain hoping to sensitize the common man and bring about a positive change in attitude. The students garnered a lot of praise for their insightful depiction, striking dialogues and  power packed performance.
Apart from this, under the ageis of the school First Aid Club, a Doctor’s Talk was conducted in the classes of the Middle Block to raise consciousness about AIDS. The students availed the opportunity of the interactive session by asking questions and clearing their doubts related to the many misconceptions about AIDS which often contribute to the spread of HIV and constrain the uptake of preventive services.
The members of the School Management Mr. Sukhdeep Grewal and Mr. Paramdeep Grewal commended the Josephites on their endeavor to create social awareness on such topical issues. Principal Ms. Monica Chawla also praised the students saying that only the light of knowledge can rid us of the darkness of fear and hostility.
