WORLD SOIL DAY PRESS NOTE
“Education should be imparted with a view to the type of society that we wish to build.”
At St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Sec. 44 D, Chandigarh, we always believe that any learning is more effective when it’s an active rather than a Passive process. In order to build the 21st century skills in the children, through the ‘Learning by Doing’ initiative, an Eco Club activity was organised on the occasion of “World Soil Day” for the students of Primary-1 Block.
This day is celebrated worldwide as a means to focus attention on the importance of healthy soil and to advocate for the sustainable management of soil resource.
To mark this remarkable day, Soil painting activity was organised which gave a wonderful platform to Josephians to showcase their creativity skills and love towards the nature.
Through this enjoyable activity, students were apprised that healthy soil is fundamental to our survival. It is essential for healthy plant growth, human nutrition and water filtration. It supports a landscape that is more resilient to the impacts of drought, flood or fire. Soils helps to regulate the Earth’s climate and stores more carbon than all of the world’s forest combined.
The objective of activity was not only to inculcate scientific attitude and gain a deeper appreciation of soils but also to create interest in nature. The children thoroughly enjoyed art integrated activity and learnt important components of soil.
Teachers shared the knowledge and interesting facts to enlighten their peers on the increasing damage of soil due to rise in the pollution levels.
Block Co-ordinator Block Ms. Shelza Arora conveyed heartfelt appreciation to the children for their overwhelming and enthusiastic participation.
