Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti Celebrated by Josephites

Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti marks the auspicious day where Sikhs celebrate the birthday of the 10th Guru—Guru Gobind Singh. Guru Gobind Singh ji was born in 1666 at Patna Sahib in Bihar and is best known for rising against the Mughal rulers and safeguarding the interests of people from the invaders. He was a benevolent man who preached justice, peace, and equality for all. He lived the life of a saint and inspired millions of Sikhs with his writings that depict the way he led his life. He had principles, which he and his followers followed and still follow religiously. The basic norms included not obliging to the prevalent caste system and superstitions, they believed in one God, and they followed the “5 K’s” — kangha, kesh, kacchera, kara, and kirpan.

The day was marked with students of Middle Block, St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Chandigarh by sharing few videos with them and making them remember Guru Gobind Singh’s teachings, his lifelong battle against the plundering Mughals, his fight against cruelty and injustice and propagated not to tolerate injustice. Students also joyously recited poems and showcased posters depicting the lessons to be learnt from his sufferings and struggles.

Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla also shared few words of wisdom with students by telling them that on this day everyone should  pray for the prosperity and well-being of fellow peopleand to always fight against cruelty and injustice and not to even tolerate it.
