Celebrating Valour And Courage Under Veer Gatha Project

Adhering to the strong belief of empowering the girls, the Girls India Project encouraged various girls from St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh to take part in several activities organized under the Veer Gatha Project. The Project is an initiative by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. It aims to disseminate the details of the bravery acts and the life stories of the brave armed personnel among the students. The project has been proposed by the ministry to motivate and infuse the students with a spirit of respect and gratitude towards the brave hearts because of whom we live in peace and safety. It’s a platform for the students from various schools across the country to participate in projects/activities based on gallantry award winners. Each year the Government of India acknowledges the acts of bravery and sacrifice of the officers, personnel of armed forces, other lawfully constituted forces and civilians on two occasions, i.e. Independence Day and Republic Day. The awards have many stories of valour, grit and fearlessness attached to them and commemorates acts of heroism. This year, various competitions were organized under the Project which included Poetry and Essay Writing, Painting, Poster Making and Multi Media Projects.
Various girls from the school participated in the competitions, wherein they drew inspiration from the lives of the valiant soldiers to do something extraordinary, something beyond their call of duty and for the betterment of the country and people at large .The girls also got an opportunity to interact and get a first-hand account of various anecdotes and experiences of valour and fearlessness of various defence personnel. Prominent among them was BRIG. (Retd.)ASHISH UPPAL who hails from a traditional military family and lives in Chandigarh. BRIG.ASHISH inspired the girls with not only stories of bravery but the competitive military facets of disciplined army life. The girls were encouraged to join the armed forces to be at par with men. They were reminded of their immense potential and strength and the need to tap it. The girls shared as how empowered they felt while they explored and portrayed the thrilling and the courageous stories of these remarkable heroes.
The Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla was all praises for the innovative project and motivated the students to be inspired by the lives of these courageous and fearless people.
