“Healthy wetlands are imperative for a healthy Earth.”

World Wetlands Day is celebrated on February 2 to raise global awareness about the vital role of wetlands for people and our planet. To mark this day, the Deptt. Of Environment, Chandigarh Administration and NGO -Yuvsatta organised E-Drawing and Poster Making Contests for the schools in the tri-city. The theme of the painting competition was ‘Wetlands Action for People and Nature’ and ‘Swacch Baharat Abhiyan.’ The two very talented students of St.Joseph’s added more feathers to the already enriched bank of prestigious awards by winning in the competition. Tanya (Class VIII) -Junior Category and Ipsita Bhardwaj (Class X) -Senior Category won prizes in the Digital competition, which was quite a challenge in itself. These artists unleashed their creative side and did full justice to the given themes. The winners were honoured at the Conference Hall, Paryavaran Bhawan, Chandigarh, where Sh. Debendra Dalai, IFS Director, Deptt. Of Environment, Chandigarh graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Josephians have consistently proved themselves as great Eco- Saviours and the Eco club has assisted students acquire a set of values of concern for the environment. They have also motivated their schoolmates to participate in the improvement and protection of our environment actively. The school has initiated a plethora of innovative and meaningful Eco – Club activities that inspire the students and sensitize them towards the environment.

The School Management and the Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla, an enthusiastic environmental activist, congratulated the winners for their efforts. The Principal elaborated on how wetlands play a significant role in reducing the impact of climate change. She added that wetlands are like kidneys, as they purify the atmosphere and control floods. Indeed, an excellent takeaway for young enthusiast minds.
