A SESSION ON JOURNALISM FOR JOSEPHIANS
To promote personal growth and resilience among youngsters and motivate them to adopt a wellness approach to life, a talk was conducted in the Secondary Block at St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec School, Chandigarh Mr. Arun Naithani, Dy. News Editor Dainik Tribune Chandigarh was the guest speaker. The talk aimed to create a living and learning student support system and environment that is conducive to academic success by promoting a healthy lifestyle and personal growth. Mr. Arun focused on various significant issues like the importance of reading newspapers to keep ourselves abreast of events happening around us. He added that newspapers contain columns of information about all aspects of life, from food to industry and nations to the world. Students can learn ample ways to maintain mental and physical well-being and get accurate news. Social media that carries fake news and is counterproductive should be replaced by reading newspapers, which is also the cheapest way to get valuable information on the happenings around the world. Mr. Arun emphasized adopting a welcoming and safe student support system as well as a diverse array of residential, sporting, cultural and leadership opportunities that will foster the holistic development of students. He motivated Josephians to be ethical leaders and responsible citizens. Students sat engrossed and learned a lot from the talk of the well-versed speaker. They interacted with the guest by asking varied questions about the print media.
The School Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla, honoured Mr. Arun with a souvenir and expressed her gratitude to Mr. Arun for delivering valuable and enriching information to the students. She emphasized that newspaper offers a great window to the local, national and global affairs. It develops critical thinking and decision making skills too. Art of writing is also an area which can make students better communicators and smart presenters which is need of the hour.
