JOSEPHIANS APPEAL TO STAND UNITED AGAINST TERRORISM ON ANTI-TERRORISM DAY
The students at St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School observed ‘Anti-Terrorism Day’ to enlighten students about terrorism, its impact on human suffering and the loss of precious human lives. Anti-Terrorism Day is observed on May 21 in India to mitigate terrorism; promote national harmony, and unity among people of all castes, creeds and gender. It was on this day in the year 1991, that former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated; a brutal act of terror that left the entire country bereaved and shocked. Hence, May 21 was the choice to mark Anti-Terrorism Day as a constant reminder to every generation about the heinous consequences of terrorist activities. The significance of this day is to make citizens and particularly the youth, conscious and aware of the menace of terrorism. Also, as true Indians we must resolve to fight this threat and do whatever it takes, to nip it in the bud. Terrorism is indeed a curse and must be dealt with before it spreads its evil tentacles around the very fabric of a thriving society.
The Secondary Block students made colourful posters depicting the theme, thus unleashing the tremendous talent of youngsters. The students of Sr. Secondary Block were enlightened by the educators on ‘Anti–terrorism’ and the significance of the day was discussed at length.
The School Principal Ms Monica Chawla praised the Josephites for promoting the feeling of love, harmony and patriotism through their artwork and inspired them to reflect the same through their deeds. Speaking on the occasion, she condemned all forms of terrorism and reiterated the need of adopting a zero-tolerance approach against it. Ms Chawla eloquently emphasized the need of disengaging people from getting sucked into the vortex of terrorism through constructive and innovative ways.
