SWACHHATA KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV- DISPOSAL OF SINGLE USE PLASTIC CAMPAIGN
You need to be content with small steps. Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.
Single-use plastic products may epitomize convenience, but with the damage they cause through production, distribution and litter, they are a major threat to environmental and human health. Not only does banning and recycling of single-use plastic reduce pollution, but it also reduces demand for plastic production that’s contributing to global climate change.
Under ‘Indian Swachhta league, St Joseph’s Sr Sec School Sector 44 D Chandigarh organized ‘Swachhta Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ in collaboration with MC Chandigarh. The students and staff members brought plastic waste from their homes, which was later collected by Municipal Corporation’s Plastic Waste Collection Van on 21st September 2022.
What better way could be to make it memorable than to make young minds aware about the ban and harmful effects of single use plastic and encourage them to start small by collecting litter in a class, on school grounds or in local neighbourhood. The whole school was involved in this ‘Plastic Mukt Chandigarh’ & ‘Say No to Plastic’ campaign.
The school is already pro-active in various environmental endeavors right from Eco Brick Campaign to S.T.O.P (Student Take On Plastic) Campaign. School also got felicitated by the environment department for its creative and mass movements under STOP. This collection of single use plastic from all the houses of Josephite family added to the zeal which school already carries.
The Director Mr. Paramdeep S. Grewal and the Principal Ms. Monica Chawla appreciated the efforts of Josephians to spread the word and take part wholeheartedly in this bigger clean up. They urged all to give up the use of single use plastic and make Chandigarh free of plastic.
