St.Joseph’s Organised Toy Making Workshop under the aegis of CCPCR
“For Children, playing with toys and games is fundamentally important for learning 21st century skills such as problem solving, collaboration and creativity.
With the aim of rediscovering the role of toys in cognitive development of children, an Educational Toy Making Workshop was organised at St.Joseph’s Sr.Sec.School, Sector 44 D, Chandigarh in association with CCPCR on the theme ‘ Enjoyable Learning’ to mark the beginning of the Children’s Day celebrations.
St.Joseph’s being one of the pioneer schools in the tricity to promote teaching through Educational Toys and the proud recipient of the’ Best Practices Award’for the same, undertook the venture under the auspices of CCPCR to shoulder the responsibility of conducting training workshop for all the partner Schools.
The main aim was to equip the teachers from the neighbouring schools in the art of creating toys with the help of low cost material which are environment sustainable and which ignite creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills in children.
Around 25 schools participated in the Workshop. In keeping with the signature style of the Josephian family. The participants were warmly welcomed with Tiaras and Sashes and enterprising titles for educators followed by a photo session which brought a ready smile to their faces.
The workshop commenced with inauguration of the programme by Ma’am Harjinder Kaur.She enounced on the ideology behind the workshop.With her powerful message she set the tone of the workshop.All the distinguished speakers were presented with planters and a special token of love was bestowed on Mrs Harjinder Kaur.(CCPCR) Principal Ms. Monica Chawla, shared the experience of the actual implementation of the programme, She elaborated on the way forward in seeking to foster the creation of colossal of toys according to the school curricula.
The Chief Guest Shri Harsuhinder Pal Singh Brar (Director School Education) graced the occasion. He lauded the School for sharing their best practices in order to make the learning process effective and interesting.
The session proved to be a happy amalgamation of enthusiasm and creative ideas by the resource person and the attendees as well. Participants divided into groups were introduced to different kinds of toy making and designing game experimentations for the young learners to create a joyful learning experience both for teachers as well as the learners. Demonstration sessions were conducted by Head of Departments and the practitioner teachers on making toys and presentation of good practices in the schools. Every group added their efforts and created games using different kinds of material. In the end ,the workshop concluded with every group explaining their work and showcasing the games and props being made.It was followed by an assessment how successfully the participants have incorporated the learning of the session in their teaching methodology.
The revered School Principal Ms Monica Chawla was felicitated with an Appreciation Award and a school in honour for sharing her expertise in the Educational Toy Making Workshop under the Girl’s India Project of CCPCR.The Head of Departments Ms Aarti Malhotra (English,) Ms Rama Garg (Mathematics)and Ms Jyoti (Science) were also rewarded by Ma’am Harjinder Kaur CCPCR for mentoring and successfully executing the workshop.
The revered School Director Mr Paramdeep Sir appreciated the team CCPCR for their vision and mission to equip all the children with required 21st century skills. The honourable Principal Monica Chawla congratulated all the participants present, on their willingness to learn by being an active part of this workshop. She further said in her message that a ‘hand holding ‘session will be organised where the resource persons will observe the practical use of ‘Toy Pedagogy’.
