Children were made aware about their own Safety
Teaching kids about their own safety, is vital for two reasons: It helps children better understand how to protect themselves from abuse and untoward incidents. It encourages open communication among teachers, children and their parents. With this idea, Kindergarten block at St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School sector 44 D Chandigarh conducted twin activities ‘Stranger danger’ and ‘Good touch bad touch’ under CACA (Children Against Child Abuse) project.
The phrase ‘stranger danger’ is intended to encapsulate the danger associated with adults whom children do not know. They can potentially be dangerous. Teachers enacted a skit dressed up as a stranger, a kid and her mom. They showed what to do and what not to do, if they encounter with any stranger. Students were cautioned not to take anything, talk to or go with strangers in any circumstances.
To make kids well informed about ‘Good Touch and Bad Touch’ they were given demonstration with dummies and skit. Children got to know about the people in their ‘safety circle’ whom they should tell everything without any hesitaion. They were guided about their private body parts and that nobody except their safety circle people can see or touch them. And if anybody else does so and they feel uncomfortable, they should say loudly ‘No’ and run away from there. They are the boss of their body and none has right to touch their private parts without their permission.
These activities influenced tiny tots a lot and they learnt how to remain alert and cautious to keep themselves protected and safe.
