‘Better keep yourself clean and bright, you are the window through which you must see the world’
Swachh Bharat Mission is a countrywide campaign initiated by the Government of India with the tagline ‘a step towards cleanliness’. With this flagship, under the able guidance of Ms Anindita Mitra IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh conducted ‘Swahh Technology Challenge’ for the schools of tricity. In this Swachh Sarvekshan 2023, St Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44 D Chandigarh proudly bagged third rank in two categories ‘Swachh School’ and ‘Swachh Technology challenge’.
The school Principal Ms Monica Chawla along with her team members received the award in Swachh Award Ceremony held at open air theatre, Sector 48 Chandigarh. Ms Sarbjit Kaur, Mayor Chandigarh graced the occasion as chief guest. MCC Commissioner, area Councillor and other officers were also present there.
The themes of Swachh Technology Challenge were zero dump, plastic waste management, social inclusion and transparency. Bringing solutions for a cleaner and greener generation, under the mentorship of the Principal, the school initiated a number of programmes to create awareness about plastic recycling and its alternatives i.e. smart trash bins, plastic pen revolution, patio umbrellas made of used milk packets, cloth bag campaign and STOP campaign. The students have ingrained these habits in their daily life and are contributing in spreading awareness about health, cleanliness, personal hygiene and waste management too.
The principal expressed her sincere gratitude to the Director Mr. Paramdeep Grewal for the vision of the school and trust and support towards whole staff, for integrating innovation in education every day. They congratulated the students and staff for this achievement and motivated them to continue to make the school and the city proud through their earnest endeavours.
