Evolving and growing together in harmony by being “GIVERS” and “RECEIVERS” of “SUPPORT” is the motto of the Hubs of Learning of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44- D, Chandigarh. A unique strategy was adopted by Ms. Monica Chawla, the principal of St. Joseph’s, that every school under the hub gets an equal opportunity to be the lead school in different months to motivate them to strive for introduction of innovative activities in their schools. Regular meetings of hub coordinators were held every month in their respective schools to decide upon the plan of action and share their respective teaching strategies and activities.
The motive behind the introduction of this program was to achieve the motive of working together as a team and help each other grow in every sphere. Stress was laid for sharing good practices and innovative teaching methodologies between host schools, inculcating ethics and moral values through celebration of important days and festivals, skill enrichment activities to promote creative and critical thinking among students. These activities were framed keeping in view the age group.
Enriching, and creative activities were designed by the host schools to boost the students of their oratory and public speaking skills throughout the year. St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44 D, Chandigarh acted as the mentor school and collaborated with neighbouring schools of the surrounding areas including government schools and private schools.
Activities such as fancy dress on Independence day, poster making on Endangered species, model making on National Science Day, jewellery making on Teej etc. were organised. The participants from all the schools got a chance to display their talent in a unique way. The prize distribution ceremonies were also held in the host lead school and the winners were given certificates and prizes which really encouraged the students.
A conclusion meeting was hosted by St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School where all the principals of the hub schools were invited. Ms. Monica Chawla addressed the meeting. She congratulated and thanked all the hub schools for their uninterrupted cooperation and support. A discussion was held to take the feedback of the effectiveness of all the activities conducted in the previous year. She also asked for the suggestions from the other schools for the betterment of the program. She also highlighted the importance of sharing good and innovative practices for promoting quality education. The meeting concluded with a take away message “Students are our priority, Change is the reality and Collaboration is the strategy.”
