THE FESTIVAL OF TREES, VAN MAHOTSAV MARKED AT ST. JOSEPH’S

The students at St. Joseph Sr. Sec. School carried out the most important task for the month of July, as they marked Van Mahotsav day. This day is a reminder that we must protect forests and stop deforestation and practice the 3R rule- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Keeping this in mind, the students of Class-2 of the Primary-1 block, participated in sapling plantation drive, thus giving an opportunity to students to understand social responsibility in safeguarding trees and forests. The Middle Block marked the day with an innovative project named- The Cloth Bag Campaign. The Programme urges one and all to come together and say no to single use plastic and to propagate the use of cloth and jute bags. The Josephites proudly proclaimed that it is their way to create a cleaner and a greener planet for all and pledge their devotion to the task .The enthusiastic young environmentalists rallied for the noble cause to curb use of disposable plastic.

To raise awareness and concern for nature among youngsters, the Secondary Block conducted an outer board embellishment competition with the theme, ‘Nature at its Best’. Students showcased their talent with great pride and put up beautifully made charts. The teachers spoke on the importance of planting trees. Several hazardous problems and issues created by deforestation were also stressed upon.

The best way to inspire a love for nature is to start teaching it at a young age. By having students learn every aspect of tree planting and care, from picking a species to putting it in the ground and everything in between, it becomes second nature to them. Valuable lessons passed down through generations have taught us the value of trees. Wise men have rightly stated, that if anyone is sitting in the shade of a tree today, it is only because someone planted a tree a long time ago. Watching young children planting saplings and trees was a delightful experience.

Members of Management Mr.Sukhdeep Grewal and Mr. Paramdeep Grewal who are avid environmentalists themselves, congratulated the students for expressing their feelings and respect for nature and praised the educators for encouraging the youngsters to become more active in environmental conservation efforts. They believe that the planting of trees and gardens in schools, helps beautify the community and the newly planted trees not only enrich the students lives but also the Earth. As the gardens start to flower, they will attract bees, birds, and butterflies –thus creating an aura of peace to the area.

The Principal of the school Ms. Monica Chawla, has always encouraged students to do their bit for the environment as she often says that,’ taking care of the environment is not an obligation, our environment is our life.’ She also stressed that children must think of the future of our planet and be the protectors and guardians of Mother Nature.
