Every change begins with a single step and every thought brings us closer to our goal. St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School collaborated with Yuvsatta under the aegis of CPCC- Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee, Chandigarh Administration to organize a ‘Cyclothon’ on September 7th, 2023. The United Nations General Assembly has designated September 7th as the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies with an aim to emphasize the need to make further efforts to improve air quality for better human health.
The ‘Cyclothon’ began from Parade Ground to Sukhna Lake with more than 20 students riding their bicycles as strong proponents of clean and green environment. The young enthusiasts displayed placards with strong messages, advocating the dire need for us humans to take the onus of our reckless actions towards ‘Mother Nature’ and join hands in solidarity to create a pollution free environment. As the cyclists pedaled their way on the assigned route, they shouted slogans drawing the attention of the general masses towards the noble cause and encouraging them to adopt sustainable ways of life. The children shared that environmental issues transcend borders and therefore require international cooperation to address global challenges like climate change.
The student under the mentorship of the school Principal, Ms. Monica Chawla is often engaged in addressing various environmental issues. The Principal shared with the students how vital is environmental advocacy for the well-being of the planet, its inhabitants and the future sustainability of human civilization and urged them to continue in their earnest efforts to propagate environmental concerns.
