Celebrating festivals in school has become an integral part of learning and building a strong cultural belief. The Krishna Janmashtami festival marks the birth of Krishna, one of the most popular deities worshipped by Hindus. The word ‘janma’ means birth and the word ‘ashtami’ means eight; thus, Krishna Janmashtami is the celebration of Krishna’s birth on the eighth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadrapada (August–September).
A plethora of activities were conducted at St. Joseph’s Sr Sec School Sector 44 D Chandigarh to celebrate the festival. The school premises were adorned with colorful decorations including peacock feathers, flutes and images of Lord Krishna, adding to the festive ambiance.

They brought flutes, matkis and mukut, the most beloved belongings of Lord Krishna and decorated them with beads, golden wires, threads, crystal stones etc. passionately. The young artists captivated each one with their conscientious craftsmanship.
Chanting a shloka is a call to Lord Krishna to take us under his shelter and to take away all the grieves and miseries from our lives. The students mesmerized the audience with their oratory skills by reciting shlokas from Bhagwad Geeta with great confidence, correct pronunciation of words and fluency of language. Splendid performances were put up by the Josephians, in the form of dance items and soulful renditions of bhajans, depicting the birth of Kaanha and giving the message of victory of good over evil, which were really fascinating to recall and rejoice the moments of His childhood and youth.
A visit to ISKCON temple had been organized for the tiny tots to commemorate the auspicious occasion of the birth of Lord Krishna. This visit provided them with an enriching spiritual and cultural experience. The priests at the temple provided them with valuable insights into the life and teachings of Lord Krishna. They shared stories from the Bhagavad Gita, emphasizing the importance of righteousness and duty, which left a lasting impression on each one of them.
