MENTORS AT ST. JOSEPH’S GUIDED ON THE RELEVANCE OF CYBER SAFETY AND SECURITY

St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School organized an all-important CBSE Session for the teachers on Cyber Safety and Security. Ms. Manjeet Jauhar was the resource person from the CBSE for this Capacity Building Programme. She is a reputed academician who has been a part of designing the curriculum for various educational boards and conducting workshops and webinars for teachers at the National level.

The other resource person Ms. Achint Kaur, who along with being a Google Certified Teacher is also a reputed innovator and Web Ranger and has undertaken courses and trainings such as ‘Augmented Reality by School of Innovation’ from Facebook and CBSE amongst many others

Speaking at length the resource persons mentioned about how cyber threats can come at any time and from anywhere and why it is important to teach children about simple social engineering scams that include bullying, harassment, identity theft, fraud etc. They mentioned how nowadays, cell phones and the internet have become an important part of our lives. It is thus crucial to teach children the importance of social media, computer security, and privacy. There is an urgent need to guide them regarding cyber threats, phishing, cyberbullying, and their potential impacts. One of the most effective measures to ensure safety is through staff training and awareness efforts.

The resource persons encouraged teachers to educate children about the dangers of the internet by talking to them about the risks of sharing personal information and downloading files or apps from unknown sources. Great emphasis was laid on teaching children to be cautious when interacting online with strangers. Mentors were also guided on why it is a great necessity to communicate with young minds on what comprises as acceptable and respectable to themselves and others. Teaching children on protecting their identity and location and not to share any personal information online, was also a salient feature of this session. Also, participants were made to do an activity on various themes connected to the topic.

The Members of Management Mr. Sukhdeep S. Grewal and Mr. Paramdeep S. Grewal were pleased that significant cyber safety tips were given to the teachers so as to assist young minds. They spoke about how in the digital age, children are exposed to technology and the internet, making them vulnerable to cybercrime that can harm children’s mental and emotional health.

The Principal Ms. Monica Chawla thanked the resource persons for the valuable information shared and hoped the Mentors would play a significant role in educating the students on the judicious use of the internet. She also highlighted the importance of telling children about the consequences of breaking the rules and thus putting themselves at great risk to complete strangers.

The session was indeed fruitful as the teachers understood the importance of cyber security in this progressively internet-centred world. Being well guided, they were all ready to take on yet another noteworthy task of securing the safety of their students.
