SALUTING – THE FATHER OF OUR NATION on his 154th birth anniversary
‘Peace is the most powerful weapon of mankind. It takes more courage to take a blow than to give one’. – Mahatma Gandhi.
Mahatma Gandhi or lovingly known as ‘Bapu’ by all Indians is internationally acknowledged for his doctrine of truth and non-violence that led to India’s glorious freedom and earned him the title of ‘Father of the Nation’.
2nd October, every year is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti- the story of his life has impacted humanity to its core.
To revere this day, a plethora of activities was organised for the students of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh. The students of Kindergarten recited rhymes with exuberance. Nursery and Pre. Nursery students artistically coloured and crafted the ‘Spectacles’ and ‘Spinning Wheel’ used by Bapu. Students also enacted as ‘The Three Monkeys ’of Gandhiji highlighting the three principles of-‘See no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil.’
Students of Primary-1 showed their creative skills by participating in slogan writing on –‘Universal values of kindness and brotherhood ’and Puppet craft , making the Three Monkeys of Bapu. Whereas Primary-2 students indulged in Tree Plantation and watched informative and inspirational documentary movies on Gandhi ji.
Students of Middle block enthusiastically participated in the ‘Shramdaan’- A cleanliness drive was undertaken by the students spreading the awareness of ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness’. Class 8 students expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the ‘Father of the nation’ through letters .A peace walk was conducted spreading the message of simplicity and virtuousness which Gandhiji epitomized. Self composed poems on the Mahatma were also recited to pay homage to Gandhiji.
Class X students participated in the Hindi debate on the principles of Mahatma Gandhi. Besides this the bulletin board embellishment activity was conducted for class 9 and 10 in which they unleashed their hidden talent depicting Gandhiji’s values and achievements during the freedom struggle.
All the Josephites were imbued with Gandhian values and principles and vowed to follow his footsteps. The members of the management Mr. Sukhdeep Singh and Mr. Paramdeep Singh Grewal, and the Principal Ms. Monica Chawla were overwhelmed by the wholehearted participation of the students on this auspicious day.They futher advised the students to revive the principles of the great leader and follow his path of truth and non-violence.
