St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School Chandigarh organized a three-day extravaganza- ‘Green Diwali Endeavors’ adding another chapter to our togetherness with collaborating schools. The event was organized in the persuasion of the rich legacy of St. Joseph School to safeguard the environment, mitigate climate change, conserve resources, and promote and preserve biodiversity. The three-day event was a collaborative effort with various government schools of the city from Sectors 37, 18, 52, 53, and Karsan. The students from multiple schools wholeheartedly participated in the ‘Crafts Mela’ organized by the school’s Eco Club, spanning over three days. On day 1, various schools participated in an Arts and Crafts workshop learning and acquiring artistic skills to create beautiful Diwali artifacts. Day 2 of the event witnessed an exhibit of beautiful creations centering around Diwali. The masterpieces were designed and crafted with sustainable choices. The day 2 also featured an elaborate talent show where numerous students from the collaborating Govt. Schools showcased their many talents including singing, dancing, poetry, mimes, acting, and painting to name a few. The talent show was judged by seasoned RJs Mr. Rex and Ms. Shree from the Radio Industry. This was followed by a Rangoli competition which was a splendid display of creativity and collaborative team effort as students from different schools teamed up to create beautiful and thoughtful designs for a sustainable Diwali. Day 2 of the ‘Green Diwali Endeavours’ was closed on a high note with all the students pledging to celebrate a clean and green Diwali.
Day 3 of the Diwali extravaganza at St. Joseph’s was graced by Shri Debendra Dalai, Indian Forest Service Officer as the Chief Guest, who has dedicated his career towards the betterment of the environment.
The students at St. Joseph’s make sincere efforts and adopt and embrace eco-friendly ways to celebrate the festival of lights. Adding an empathetic touch to the festivities they make deliberate choices for the environment, not just for today but for the future generations. They took turns at the podium and shared innovative and thoughtful ideas to celebrate a greener and cleaner Diwali followed by a pledge. The young and budding poets captivated the audience with their thought-provoking poetry, bringing cheer and invoking a sense of responsibility at the same time.
Finally, ‘The Street Rockers’, the school’s Nukkad Natak club, donned their acting caps and presented a high-energy and moving Nukkad Naatak, reiterating the need and benefits of celebrating a sustainable Diwali.
The Chief Guest congratulated the school for their innovative and commendable endeavors in the arena of Sustainability. He shared his joy at being at the school to witness the nurturing of thoughtful global citizens. In the end, our Principal, Mrs. Monica Chawla, applauded the children for their efforts and innovative ideas towards a sustainable Diwali and making ‘ Green Diwali Endeavours’ a grand success.
