Observed every year on Purnima, Guru Nanak Jayanti is one of the most largely celebrated birth anniversaries of the first Sikh Guru, who enlightened men about the existence of a single, Omnipresent God and brought reformation into a tainted society with his teachings.The Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Ji is celebrated on a majestic scale worldwide every year.

To honour the legacy of Guru Nanak and mark his birth anniversary the Management, Staff and students at St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector 44-D, Chandigarh organised a Kirtan conducted by the Granthis within the school premises. Ardaas was also offered with great reverence and piety.

A religious song was also presented by the school choir which was much appreciated by everyone.

After the soulful rendition of the  Shabads, Kada Prashad was distributed to the gathering. A langar was held for the Staff and students were also handed out biscuits as part of the prasad.

The entire school premises reverberated with the mesmerizing, euphonious hymns  that created an idyllic aura.

The Josephians also participated  in various activities so as to acquaint them with the  Sikh values of compassion, prosperity, equality and justice stated in the Holy Granth. Slogan Writing, Poetry Recitation,  Class Discussions , Shabad Recitals, Card Making activities themed on Gurupurab , all served the purpose of ensuring that the children were apprised of the Guru’ s words of wisdom which reinforced the importance of his teachings in their lives.

Gurupurab also seemed to be the perfect time to introduce another innovative school programme,  HIS Shop an acronym for Honesty Integrity Shop Counter  wherein a Mobile Cart has been designed and crafted to stock books, notebooks and other stationery items that have been selflessly donated by the Josephians for anyone who needs it . Students will buy the items for the nominal rates listed. This ideation behind this initiative is to inspire the students to follow the moral path of Honesty and Integrity that Guru Nanak Dev Ji epitomised throughout his life.

The Members of the School Management,  the Principal and the Staff and students felt truly blessed to be a part of the celebrations.

The Principal stated that  celebrating Guru Nanak Jayanti serves as a reminder of His commitment to breaking down societal divisions and promoting a sense of unity and brotherhood which is the need of the hour especially in the times of strife we live in now. She then stressed upon the importance of inculcating the values associated with every religious festival and acquainting the students with their culturally rich heritage.
