A talk about safety of animals was conducted for the students of Primary 2 Block of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School. The talk was given by Ms. Alex Rausch, an eminent Humane Educator and a passionate animal lover. She is an active member of Peedu’s People, an organization to protect animal rights. She was welcomed by the Principal Ms. Monica Chawla and Coordinator Ms. Jyothi Belvadi. They presented a planter to her as a token of gratitude.
The talk started with a short presentation showing different expressions shown by dogs and the meaning of each. She introduced Dogese language and told the students how to understand and interpret animal behavior. She apprised the students to be kind to animals, understand them and take good care of these loving creatures. She urged the students to have a mindful attitude towards animals. She informed the students about the fundamental rights of animals. A positive and loving approach to become friends with stray dogs was explained through an enactment. Ms. Alex highlighted the different laws related to wild animals and the consequences of harming or keeping wild animals as pets in homes. The students were astonished to learn about parrots and snakes too.
The session was quite an interactive one which was well received by the students with zeal. They came up with many interesting questions regarding the behavior of stray dogs in their locality.
Ms. Alex responded patiently to all queries with a broad smile. The Helpline numbers for animal protection were shared with the audience. She was quite impressed by the response and appreciated the efforts put in by the school management in imbibing compassion and warmth in the students. She acknowledged high morals and values practiced in the school and admired the ground work done by the School for undertaking various animal friendly activities and drives. She confirmed to be looking forward to work hand in hand with the school on several animal protection ventures in the near future.
The principal Ms. Monica Chawla thanked Ms. Alex for sparing her valuable time and making the students aware about animal protection and rights. She was elated by the response of the students and further motivated them to be empathetic towards animals. She concluded by quoting, “How you treat animals will tell me what kind of person you are?”
It was overall a fruitful session.
